Ned tried unsuccessfully to play the game of thrones, but he didn’t realise that the other participants don’t like playing fair. Robert died, and Joffrey ascended the throne – with Cersei as the woman behind the boy. Littlefinger also betrayed him, effectively tipping the power in favour of the Lannister family. Over in Essos, Khal Drogo rallied the Dothraki to set sail for Westeros.
Game of Thrones intensified with its first major character death in the form of Viserys – who threatened his sister and got a crown of molten gold for his troubles. Ned was ready to pack up and leave King’s Landing but Littlefinger enticed him with another clue – and we discovered that Joffrey’s father is not Robert!
It’s officially Stark vs Lannister! Maybe Catelyn’s beef isn’t really with Tyrion, but the fact that she had any was enough to antagonise Jaime and implicate Ned. The latter isn’t having a good week, as he was about to walk out on Robert after being ordered to murder the pregnant Daenerys.
